Opposition Leader Jess Wilson announced 25 hybrid electric trains for the Melton and Wyndham Vale lines on Wednesday, running on overhead wires where they exist and diesel where they do not.
Both lines were supposed to be electrified by now.
Labor promised it in 2018 under the Western Rail Plan and again before the 2022 election, and has since put $152.7 million into planning the Melton conversion with the Commonwealth.
There is still no completion date for either corridor.
